10 US lawmakers sign congressional letter given to President Trump before arrival of PM Imran Khan

July 22, 2019

SAPAC is pleased to announce that a congressional letter, initiated and signed by Congressman Brad Sherman, the founder of the Sindh Caucus and senior member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, was sent to President Trump prior to the arrival of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.

This is the first time that ten members of Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, have written a letter to the U.S. President on Sindh issues. Dr. Maqbool Halepota, President of SAPAC, has emphasized the importance of raising issues faced by Sindhis in Pakistan on an international scale.

It is also the first time that Pakistan’s Military, Intelligence, and civil leadership have visited the United States together. This letter aimed to increase international pressure on the Pakistani government for the human rights abuses occurring in Sindh and make sure that Sindhi issues were not ignored during the meetings between Pakistan and the United States. This letter would not have been possible without the untiring efforts of SAPAC throughout the past ten years, raising issues that are important to Sindh and Sindhis in the United States of America.

Attached you will see the congressional letter.
