Tell the Census You Are “Sindhi”

This is a message to all Sindhis living in the United States of America, from Sindhi American Political Action Committee Executive Director Fatima Gul:

You should have received an official form in the mail in recent weeks or heard that it is time to complete the 2020 U.S. Census. Please follow the steps below to identify yourself as “Sindhi.”

Steps:

  1. Go to the Census2020 website and type in your unique ID number that came with the
    mail.
  2. You will be taken to a new screen with your address on it. If it is correct, confirm it and
then fill out the rest of the form.
  3. When prompted to identify your ethnicity, there is unfortunately no “Sindhi” category to
select. Do not despair! There is a section where you will be asked if you are of Hispanic,
Latino, or Spanish origin– say no to that section then click the next button.
  4. You will now be asked what your origin is. Go to the bottom of the page and type
    “Sindhi.”

If you did not receive the Census form in the mail, it will just be a couple of extra steps in the beginning:

  1. On the login page, click the link clearly marked for those who do not have an ID number.
  2. You will be asked where you were living on April 1, 2020. Click that you will be living in the United States. On the next page, you will type in your address.
  3. You may now fill out the rest of the U.S. Census form by following the steps above.

I just did mine. It took me a few minutes. You could do the same. Please also pass along this message to Sindhi-Americans you know.

Properly recording the number of Sindhis living in the United States of America will open the.door to opportunities and recognition for our vast, global community, including the allocations of government-sponsored programs and resources. By taking this action, you will contribute to this country’s transparency, and that is good for all of us.

Feel free to email me at fatiguldc@gmail.com if you run into any problems. Thank you and stay safe!
